Astrocartography relocation is not about fantasy travel. It is about strategic positioning.
Popularized in the 1970s by Jim Lewis, astrocartography projects your natal birth chart onto a world map to reveal where specific planetary energies become strongest for you. Certain cities amplify your career. Others activate relationships. Some bring stability. Others initiate transformation.
If you have ever thrived in one place and struggled in another without explanation, this is why.
This guide will show you how to use astrocartography correctly — not superficially.

Astrocartography, also known as locational astrology, maps your birth chart across the globe. At the moment you were born, each planet was rising, setting, culminating, or resting at the bottom of the sky somewhere on Earth. Those angular positions create meridian lines that extend across continents.

When you live or travel near one of those lines, that planetary energy becomes amplified in your lived experience.
The planet describes the type of energy activated.
The angle describes the life area it affects.
Relocation does not change your natal chart. It activates different parts of it.
Accuracy matters. You need:
You can generate your map at Astrodienst (astro.com):
You will see colored vertical lines across the world map. Each line represents a planet on one of the four angles of your chart.
This is where that planet becomes loud.
There are 44 primary planetary lines in astrocartography, including:
| Planet | What You Experience |
| Sun | Vitality, visibility, leadership, ego |
| Moon | Emotions, intuition, family themes |
| Mercury | Communication, writing, learning |
| Venus | Love, attraction, beauty, art |
| Mars | Drive, ambition, sexuality |
| Jupiter | Growth, abundance, opportunity |
| Saturn | Responsibility, structure, life lessons |
| Uranus | Change, innovation, unpredictability |
| Neptune | Spirituality, glamour, illusion |
| Pluto | Transformation, power, intensity |
| Chiron | Healing, mentorship, old wounds |
| Ceres | Nurturing, caretaking, comfort |
| North Node | Destiny, forward growth |
| South Node | Past patterns, release |
Ascendant (ASC) – Identity, physical presence, how others perceive you
Midheaven (MC) – Career, visibility, authority, public reputation
Descendant (DSC) – Partnerships, marriage, one-to-one dynamics
Imum Coeli (IC) – Home life, roots, family, emotional foundation
For example, a Venus Descendant line activates love and relationship themes. A Sun Midheaven line activates visibility and leadership in career. A Saturn IC line restructures your home life and may increase responsibility within family systems.
I always remind clients, the line tells you what area of life becomes emphasized, but does not guarantee outcomes. There is no magical wand. You must put in the work and be intentional about what you seek to accomplish when you relocate.

This is where most people go wrong.
You must assess the strength of the planet in your natal chart before relocating to its line. Evaluate the following to find your best location:
Planets in domicile operate with strength, clarity, and ease.
Planets in exaltation are also supportive with a flow of abundant energy:
Aspects are interactions between the signs, houses, and planets. The aspect lines indicate how the planets are functioning with one another. Certain aspects strengthen a planet while others, weaken it.
If your strong planet is heavily squared or opposed by Saturn or Mars, in detriment or fall, it may not operate smoothly. You may experience more lessons than ease.
For example, a Venus line in Libra with a square to the Moon is not a deal breaker. However, a Venus line in Virgo is… due to its weak planetary strength.
A Venus line does not guarantee romance if natal Venus is squared by Saturn.
A Jupiter line does not guarantee wealth if Jupiter is poorly placed and unsupported.
Astrocartography amplifies what is already present.
Your astrocartography map shows where energy is activated. Your relocated chart shows how that energy behaves.
The shift of your natal chart indicates what areas of your life are being activated in the world. Activate means when a planet enters a specific house. If you want to activate different areas of your life, travel to where your strong planets are relocated in these houses.
Quick tip
Planets have their Joy in certain houses:
Take note of any planets relocated to their place of joy!

In the charts above, Sun shifted from the hidden 8th house (natal) to the 9th house (relocated), its home. People tend to love locations with Sun relocated to the 9th where it has its joy. The relocated chart reads as a Leo Ascendant with the ruler (Sun) in the 9th, one of the lucky houses, a place that supports expansion, travel, and teaching.
In addition, the relocated chart shows a shift from a natal Pluto IC line, a very intense location for home, roots, and family. The new location shifts the intensity away from the IC to the 5th house, a less dramatic energy off the angle.
When you move, planets shift houses. House placement alters lived experience significantly.
For example, Venus relocated to the 5th house supports romance and creativity. However, Venus relocated to the 12th house may manifest as hidden relationships or emotional sacrifice.
The Moon relocated to the 4th house can bring emotional grounding. The Moon relocated to the 8th house may intensify psychological themes.
Ignoring the relocated chart leads to incomplete analysis.
Parans, short for Parantellontae, occur when two planets are angular at the same latitude. Unlike vertical meridian lines, parans run east to west and are highly concentrated.
They are typically felt most strongly within 5–10 miles, with measurable influence up to approximately 70 miles north of the line and 70 miles south of the line.
Examples include:

Parans often determine which city within a state or region produces the best results. They refine your decision. For example, if a single person was looking for love, I’d recommend moving closer to their Venus Mars paran, but steer clear of their Venus Saturn Paran within 70 miles.
Astrocartography relocation should match your priorities.
If you are building a business, focus on MC lines.
If you are prioritizing partnership, examine DC lines.
If you are reinventing yourself, look to AC lines.
If you are establishing family stability, consider IC lines.

Then combine that angle with your strongest planet.
A strong Jupiter with career goals suggests a Jupiter Midheaven line. A strong Venus with relationship priorities suggests a Venus Descendant line. A strong Sun with expansion goals may favor a Sun Ascendant line.
Relocation should be strategic, not impulsive.

Many people:
There are no universally good places. There are places that activate ambition. Places that activate love. Places that activate maturity. Places that initiate transformation.
Your map is personal.
Astrocartography relocation is not about escaping your life. It is about choosing where your development accelerates.
The correct question is not, “Where is the best place on Earth?”
The correct question is, “Which part of myself am I ready to activate?”
That is strategic relocation.
Is astrocartography accurate for relocation?
Astrocartography can be highly accurate when interpreted correctly. Planetary lines show where specific themes become stronger, but the outcome depends on the natal chart and current transits.
However, the outcome is never based on the map alone.
Your natal chart sets the foundation, and astrocartography shows where that natal potential becomes activated geographically. Transits, timing, and personal choices also shape the experience.
For example, living on a Mars line may bring ambition, drive, and competition for one person—but conflict or burnout for another—depending on how Mars functions in your birth chart. Astrocartography does not override your natal chart.
It amplifies it in certain locations
What is the best planetary line to live on?
There is no universally “best” planetary line. The most supportive location depends entirely on your natal chart.
For example, many people assume a Jupiter line is automatically the best place to live because Jupiter is associated with growth, opportunity, and abundance.
But astrology is never that simple.
If someone has Jupiter in Capricorn, or Jupiter square Saturn, the experience may feel more disciplined, demanding, or responsibility-heavy rather than joyful and expansive.
Meanwhile, someone with Jupiter in Pisces with supportive aspects may experience a Jupiter line as truly fortunate—bringing ease, inspiration, and opportunities that seem to arrive effortlessly.
Your natal story does not change when you relocate.
The location simply highlights certain chapters of that story.
How far from a planetary line does the energy extend?
According, to Jim Lewis, the orb of influence is up to 700 miles. I use Helena Wood’s measurement of 600 miles on either side of a planetary line; 600 east of the planetary line and 600 west of the planetary line. Also, it’s best not to live directly on a line, the energy may be overwhelming. About 200-300 miles from a planetary line will lessen the intensity.
Can astrocartography predict where I should move?
Astrology does not dictate where you must move.
